The Franche-Comte is on the eastern side of France and borders Switzerland.

The lower Jura, Doubs valley, mountain area. Agriculture is mainly dairy, some wine. Industries: cheese, forestries, optical, furniture.

Part of the Burgundy whilst the Dukes where in power, Hapsbourg of Austria then France in 1674.
