Buying houses in France
In France you can buy or sale a house via an estate agent or directly between private individuals,
however to conclude the sale or purchase, you must finalize the sales act legally before
a Notaire . The Notaire is a certified and qualified person acting as a neutral body, with the capacity of
accomplishing property transactions. He will make sure all the necessary documents are obtained, signed and transmitted
to the people concerned such as the buyer, seller, town hall etc. He is also responsible for
handling the money involved such as freezing the deposit, the distribution of fees
to etate agents. He will of course be paid a commission based on the value of the transaction in question.
Estate agents are called Agents immobilier , there are nationwide companies as well as smaller
local companies, they generally operate on a commission basis. Certain Estate agent offer special services for
English people such as translations of contracts and other legal documents which you will need to understand when purchasing a property.
