In French all nouns will be either masculine or feminine and there is no neutral.
There are no real rules or logic to help you decide which article to use, there are statiscally more masculine than feminine pronouns. You will be given examples to assist in deciding the gender at a later stage.

Articles
The article (Le, La, Les) which comes before the noun will depend on the gender of the noun in question.
For example
- The boy = Le garçon
- The girl = La fille
- The houses = Les masions
Indefinate Articles
The article (Un, Une, Des) which comes before the noun will depend on the gender of the noun in question.
For example
- A boy = Un garçon
- A girl = Une fille
- Some houses = Des masions
