Besançon, France
Besançon is in the Doubs, Franche-comte Besancon is perched on a rocky hill with the river Doubs making a sharp bend encircling the buildings. The small city has a fortified old castle and garrison, charming small streets and an important market. The Citadel of Besancon is an impressive fortification built by Vauban, with a history that spans hundreds of years of wars. Within there is the museum dedicated to the French Resistance and the Deported, which is a very worthwhile and emotional visit. |
